Evensong: Feast of Our Lady of Walsingham

The Cathedral Choir sings Choral Evensong at 3 PM after an organ recital at 2:30 PM. The Very Rev’d. David Wm. Mickiewicz, Rector of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Albany, will be the guest preacher.

The Feast of Our Lady of Walsingham is the annual celebration of the covenant relationship between Albany’s two cathedrals: the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and The Cathedral of All Saints. The Anglican-Episcopal, Roman Catholic, and Eastern Orthodox traditions all share devotion to Our Lady whose shrine in Walsingham, England has been a site of pilgrimage for almost a thousand years.

Evensong is a form of worship enjoyed by Christians of all denominations and by anyone who enjoys traditional choral music. It has been one of the three principal liturgies of the Anglican/Episcopal tradition since 1549. The liturgy is alternately sung or chanted by the choir or clergy and the congregation sings appointed hymns. Psalms are said or sung, followed by readings from Old and New Testaments, punctuated by canticles.

All clergy are cordially invited to process and sit with the choir; please arrive to be vested by 2:30 p.m.  Anglican Clergy should wear choir garb of cassock, surplice, tippet and hood. Ecumenical clergy should vest as is their custom.

Evensong is always free and open to the public.
