“Our Lady and the Apostles persevered in prayer, awaiting the Spirit promised by the Lord. Let us, too, listen with quiet hearts to the Word of God. And let us pray that the Holy Spirit, whom the Father sent as the first fruits for those who believe, may bring to perfection his work in the world.”
The ancient Vigil of Pentecost has been neglected in the Western church, even before it was nearly abolished in the liturgical reforms of the past century. Yet for primitive Christians, the Vigil of Pentecost was comparable in solemnity to the Easter Vigil, and likewise centered on the Sacrament of Baptism.
The Cathedral of All Saints revives the Pentecost Vigil this year as the culmination of “Thy Kingdom Come 2023” a global evangelistic prayer effort in which several area parishes are participating. The service will be held at 7PM and will include a service of readings, the Blessing of the Font, singing of the Veni Creator Spiritus, and a solemn Holy Eucharist.
Clergy are invited to arrive at 6:30PM and vest in red. All are welcome!
